Adding a domain to monitor

Monitoring a certificate with SSL Expiration Reminder takes less than a minute. There's nothing to install on your server: the check runs from the outside, exactly like a visitor.

Add a domain

1. Create a free account or log in.
2. Open the Domains page and click Add a domain.
3. Enter the domain name, without https:// or a path: example.com, www.example.com or app.example.com. If you paste a full URL, it's cleaned up automatically.
4. Click Add and check.

The certificate is checked immediately. If the site doesn't respond over HTTPS on port 443, the domain isn't added and a message tells you so.

Which name should you enter?

Each name is checked separately, because example.com, www.example.com and api.example.com can serve two different certificates from two different servers. This is common when one goes through a CDN and the other doesn't, or after a migration.

Add these first:

• your site's main domain name, with and without www. if both are in use;
• subdomains that have their own server: api., app., admin., mail.…;
• your clients' domains, if you're an agency or a freelancer.

Wildcard certificates (*.example.com) can't be monitored directly. Add one or more real subdomains that use them.

Reading the domain list

For each domain, the list shows:

• The status: Valid, Soon (less than 30 days), Urgent (less than 7 days), Expired or Not checked.
• The days remaining before expiry, with the exact date and a progress bar.
• The last check, and the time of the next one.
• The authority that issued the certificate: Let's Encrypt, Sectigo, DigiCert, Google Trust Services…

At the top of the page, four counters sum up the situation: domains monitored, valid certificates, certificates expiring within 30 days, and certificates that are expired or in error.

Available actions

• Check now (arrows icon): runs the check again, for example right after a renewal.
• Certificate details (i icon): issuer, subject, supported protocols, serial number, algorithm and recommendations.
• Edit: corrects the domain name. The certificate is checked again.
• Delete: stops monitoring this domain.

When a Let's Encrypt certificate has expired, a link to the renewal assistant appears right in the list.

What happens next?

Certificates are rechecked automatically every day, and more often on paid plans. You get alerts according to your notification preferences: by default, an email 30, 15, 7, 3 and 1 day before expiry.
